If I Had My Life To Live Over – by Erma Bombeck

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I thought I would share something different with you today, it made me think more carefully about myself and how I live my life. We must constantly check with ourselves, that what we are doing everyday with our lives is still in tune with our values and the things that really matter.

If I Had My Life to Live Over

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the’good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realised that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, “Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.” There would have been more “I love you’s.” More “I’m Sorry’s.”

But mostly given another shot at life, I would seize every minute…look at it and really see it, live it and never give it back. Stop sweating the small stuff.

Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, or who’s doing what.

Instead, let’s cherish the relationship we have with those who do love us.

Let’s think about what God HAS blessed us with. And what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally.

I hope you all have a blessed day.

There are so many ways to invest in life with your enthusiasm, your gratitude, your energy. So many ways to create wealth so you can live financially free. Keep striving to promote yourself you have gifts within you, share them with the world.

I hope this short note from Erma will encourage you to examine where you are and choose a path that will lead you to a greater life, lived.

What Do You Enjoy?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I remember being at a business training session some time ago with Jamie McIntyre as the trainer and before we got started, Jamie asked everyone, ‘What do you enjoy doing?’

I couldn’t really answer. I was a wife and mother of four and of course I enjoyed being with my family but Jamie wanted more than that. He wanted to know what I enjoyed doing for me. I couldn’t understand why that was so hard to answer. It wasn’t just me though, there were others that couldn’t come up with much of a list.

We finally came to the conclusion that we had blocked out the things we enjoyed because we just didn’t have room for them in our lives. We either didn’t have enough time or money to enjoy them.

Is that how life is supposed to be?

Well everyone at that training session decided it wasn’t. If we wanted to increase our earning ability, not just a little but really increase it, we had to have a good reason. So that became our first task, to have some fun and work out what we really enjoyed doing.

Jamie explained that often when people have trouble with this it can be easier to start with all the things we don’t enjoy. So we began writing a list of all the things in our lives that caused us to feel angry, stressed, frustrated, fearful, dissatisfied or that we absolutely hated doing. As we did this we began to notice our feelings and how strongly we felt about not having those things in our life anymore.

Once we got through this list it was a lot easier to think of what our hearts really desired in our lives, what made us happy and fulfilled, what energised and motivated us and how we felt about not having them in our lives. The whole point of the excercise was to work out why these things weren’t a part of our lives and decide what we needed to do to change that.

At that training session we learnt that being motivated to create wealth in your life often offers some very important side benefits. Creating wealth is not just about earning more money it’s about having a better, more fulfilling and balanced life. Often the reason most people don’t live more financially fulfilling lives is because they have given up on, or never had, a reason why. They have forgotten what they really enjoy.

So let me ask you. ‘What do you enjoy’?

Have a Day you Enjoy

Results, Purpose, Action – RPA

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Results, Purpose, Action (RPA) is a strategy Jamie McIntyre has implemented and now teaches to ensure that once a person’s dreams and goals have been established they have a system to turn them into reality.

The RPA Planning Process is a proven system for taking anything you can envision and making it real. It teaches you how to organise and think clearer thereby turning your thoughts into positive action instead of a muddling, overwhelming chaos.

The process is broken down into three steps:-

Step 1 -

Result – Ask yourself – “What do I want from this situation – what do I want my result to be?” Result is the R in RPA so be sure you ask yourself what you want the result to be not “What should I do” but “What result am I committed to achieving?”

Until you are clear on the result you want any ‘to do’ lists or plans will not be enough to motivate you to action.

The second step is:-

Purpose – Ask yourself – “Why do I want that result – what is my purpose”? To achieve anything successfully there must be a ‘why’ a compelling purpose or reason something that will keep you going in spite of setbacks. Without a reason then giving up is easy,
there isn’t a lot we do without a reason. So find your purpose and be specific and clear about it.

The third step -

Action – Ask yourself – “What action do I need to take to achieve the result I want”? So once you know what you want your result to be and why you are committed to achieving it you are then in a state of mind to begin creating an action plan.

The sequence for stepping towards success in achieving your goals and dreams always begins with the end in mind. You must be totally clear about the result you want, then be able to build a burning reason to achieve it before you can decide the action you need to take and have the commitment to follow it through.

Challenge Yourself to Success

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Doing what it takes to be successful can be a challenge, stepping out of the mediocre line, becoming above average isn’t always comfortable but it is an answer to many problems.

It is human nature to grow, to expand, to progress if you are not challenging yourself there’s a good chance you are not feeling completely happy with your life.

Life is for growing, achieving and building upon the talents and abilities we possess. Our challenge is to constantly and consisitently strive to reach our full potential. We all have more that we can give, the extra sit up, run just 5 more minutes, read one more page. Whatever it is we can push past our inner barriers and get closer to our goals.

What are the qualities needed for success?

They are whatever qualities you possess utilised to the fullest extent possible at any given time. So don’t sit back and wait for something to happen get up, go out and go find the answer to achieving your dreams and goals. There is no perfect moment to get started, but there will always be reasons and excuses to wait for a better time and so waiting becomes a habit. Make a start, a small one is better than none at all, and then just keep going.

Once you decide to take action guard yourself against the critics and even your own harsh judgement. You will make mistakes but mistakes are fine as long as you adjust yourself and keep going. You have an obligation, and you deserve, to live a successful life, to strive for happiness and abundance.

Creating wealth in your life honestly then using your wealth wisely is something you can be proud of. So what are you waiting for? Give yourself permission, for it is only yourself that holds you back.

You Don’t Need Approval to Drive a White Mercedes

Monday, February 8th, 2010

How do you feel about creating  wealth or becoming successful? Do you get excited by the thought? Do you feel its something you can achieve? …Or…

Do you have a nagging voice in your head telling you over and over, you can’t do it, you don’t deserve it, are you worried about what people will think or some other irrational reason?

It has taken me a long time to put a muzzle on my nagging voice. I have dreamed the dreams, I have goal set, I have recited affirmations but still wealth eluded me.

But not anymore, I have given up being worried about stepping out of my comfort zone, there really is no comfort there just numbness and dellusion.

I have given up looking at successful people wishing that was me. I have come to realise that success is about knowing what it takes and then just doing it. It is really that simple. It may take you a month, it may take you a year, it may take you ten years to reach the goal you set yourself but reach it you will, if you know what you have to do and do it.

There are many paths you can take that will lead you to success, pick one that’s right for you and follow it. If you love it you’ll keep doing it.

It is important that you choose something that you are passionate about to be successful at. Love will conquer most things in this world including your fear of success, so love what you do.

You don’t have to have everyone agreeing with you, or believing in you, you don’t need approval to pursue a dream.

You do need a reason ‘why’ you want it. You do need to know what it’s going to take, what you need to do. Then you just need to do it.

Have an amazing day

Curing Failure

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Psychiatrist Dr Alexander Elder wrote,

‘After practicing psychiatry for many years I became convinced that most failures  in life are due to self-sabotage. We fail in our professional, personal and business affairs not because of stupidity or incompetance but to fulfil an unconscious wish to fail.’

‘Failure is a curable disease’.

When we are born, a clean fresh slate, it is our desire to grow, to love and to achieve.  When we are young we believe we can be anything we want to be but as we grow, be it through nature or nurture, some of us stop believing. By the time we reach adulthood the desire no matter how feint and unnoticed still lies within us but it is no longer strong enough to push us forward, to overcome obstacles, to get up when we fall down, to fulfil our dreams.

The desire to love, to grow, to achieve still exists, it is in all of us and so we search for an answer, a solution, so we can feel like we did when we were young and believe again that anything is possible. If you want to be successful in wealth creation, in relationships or in any other endeavour that is important to you there are definate steps you can follow.

There are strategies for success that are guaranteed, if followed exactly, to lead you to your dreams. Strategies that have been proven many times over by ordinary people with little or no education, from impoverished or difficult backgrounds, who are now successful in their chosen field. You can join the ranks of other success stories by following those same steps. Napolean Hill wrote about these steps in his well known classic Think and Grow Rich, they are available to anyone, they will work for anyone who follows them.

Knowledge can be powerful, knowing the strategies to follow can give you back your dreams and help you uncover your desire to achieve them.

Passionate about Success

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

What do you spend most of your time doing?

Think of how you spend a usual day, is you time taken up with a lot of tasks that leave you feeling unfulfilled. Do you love your work?

Can you imagine the difference in attempting to succeed in something you don’t enjoy as compared to something you do enjoy? It’s quite obvious that you are more likely to put your full effort into something you love to do or have a passion for as opposed to something you don’t.

Not everything you love to do will have the ability to create a successful career for you, examined more closely though you may be surprised at what you could achieve. It all depends on what you need the final outcome of your interest to be. There is nothing wrong with having an enjoyable hobby but if you can find something you enjoy doing and make it work for you, you have a winning combination.

If you really want to be successful you first have to decide what success means to you. Is it doing a job you don’t enjoy just for a high income? Is it working at anything you can get just to pay the bills? If it is that’s fine, you are to be commended for making the contribution to society that you do. But could you do more or feel better about it if it was something you loved to do?

If you are reading this it’s because you want to be successful so why not do something you love. Having passion is one of the ingredients for success, if you’re not doing something you enjoy how can you do it with any passion, they just don’t go together.

Of course you can get by without passion, but you will join that group of people quick to complain about how unsatisfied with life or their job or their relationship they are. If you rarely feel passionate then life can be dull and meaningless. Passion is a fuel necessary to success.

If you have a passion for something but you are in a job that has nothing to do with your passion your first step would be to consider your options. You are obviously going to feel a certain amount of fear to make a change. Looked at in a positive light your fear can become excitement.

Success can mean you have to take a certain amount of risk, but it is possible to take responsible risks. For example if you decide to leave your job and go into business for yourself you might save a sum of money first, do some research, make a business plan and get some business advice before leaving your job. You might also build it up to a sustainable level before saying goodbye to your boss.

Success for you may not even have a financial value, success in health and relationships are more inportant in this life than financial success, it’s not wise to overlook them.

Focus your thoughts on those things in your life you are passionate about and success just may find you.

Take Time

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

How important is time?

Let’s go over the concept of time a little. Do we really appreciate just how precious it really is?

My guess is probably not. Everyday we are all given the same amount of hours in the day, hours that once spent cannot be replaced. How much thought do you give to time, really?

The way I think about time is the same as I feel about life, we have to make the most of it because once it’s gone…it’s gone.

So how do you use your time?

You have no power to change how many hours there are in each day, your potential power lies in how you use that time. We all say we need more hours in the day, we need to be able to turn 24 hours into thirty or thirty-six.

So how do you see time, is it working with you or against you?

If you want to succeed in any endeavour whether it’s having successful relationships, success in work or studies or in creating wealth you have to be in control of your time, don’t let time control you.

Do you give control of your time to worry or fear, do you let yourself be pulled away from tasks you have set, are you distracted when you are with the people you love?

If you are to succeed in achieving your goals - you have a mission, if you choose to accept it.

Take control of your time.

Examine your moments in time, you are either in control or out of control, there is no in-between.

To take control of your life make a list of your daily activities, plan your day, assess where you need to spend your time and stick to it.

Have an Incredible Day

Opportunities Start with You

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

This is the year to take action, no more waiting for opportunity to fall into your lap, it’s time to go out of your comfort zone and start seizing and creating your own. For example you’re going to better improve your opportunities of finding the best investment property, stocks, job or whatever you may be interested in, if you’re out consistently looking for them. This might involve going to open houses every weekend, reading company reports, ringing around for desired jobs, searching for business opportunities or maybe turning your skills into an entrepreneurial venture. You know there is something more you need to do to get the edge, this is your time to do it.

Making your own opportunities is about releasing your full potential, it’s about building the character you need to create success and keep it in your life. I’m sure you have heard of people winning the lottery only to have spent or lost it in one to two years and be back where they started. As much as they wanted wealth they just weren’t prepared to cope with it, their belief system wasn’t on their side. When you decide to go and make your own opportunities you are taking steps towards developing the mindset of a millionaire. Opportunities are everywhere but unless you are looking it could be a long wait for them to find you. It is also often the case that you may even miss an opportunity that’s right in front of you just because you aren’t taking any action.

Something else we tend to do if we aren’t focusing on making opportunities, we tend to make excuses. There may be reasons in your life that make it more difficult for you than for some, but obstacles can always be overcome with the right attitude. An excuse gives you permission not to do or achieve something but if you recognise your obstacle as a reason you give yourself permission to find a solution. Making your own opportunities can take many forms and it simply means you find a way to achieve your goals by taking some form of positive action.

I heard a story once of a redundant sales manager who wanted to find a high paying and rewarding job. So instead of just looking in the paper he decided to invest all his resources and advertise himself on national television at a peak viewing time. He received several job offers that same evening. Another story you may have heard was a young man printing his resume on a billboard and wearing it outside the offices in the area he wanted to work. If you want to purchase a certain type of property do you sit back and wait for the one you want to appear in the paper and then compete against the rest of the market? Or do you make up a small flyer and drop it in some letterboxes to find a willing seller?

Here is a short exercise you can do yourself or in a group to practise making your own opportunities.

  • Write down what it is you want to achieve.
  • Create a relaxed environment.
  • Read out your objective or goal.
  • Write down the first idea that comes to mind.
  • Continue to do this, having a few friends or family to help makes it even better
  • Read out each idea without criticism. Wild and crazy ideas are just as great as any others.
  • Combine, alter or improve on any of the ideas. You will find they will gradually evolve. Continue to note these down.
  • Continue for about 20 minutes.
  • Discuss and evaluate how particular ideas could be put into practice.

Then go out and make it happen, but don’t forget some small rewards along the way are okay they help to keep it all balanced.

Have a Fantastic Year

Breakthrough Limiting Beliefs

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

All the knowledge and education in the world will not help you if you don’t get your fears and beliefs in order. Jamie McIntyre young Australian millionaire has followed Anthony Robbins teachings successfully taking himself from homeless and in debt to a successful businessman, investor and wealth coach.

Anthony Robbins has stated ‘Belief is the main determinant of your wealth and success‘. Robbins has come to believe this through his own experiences as well as from his encounters with thousands of people through his years as a personal development coach. Believing that you can ‘achieve wealth and success’ is not a whimsical notion but rather the beginning of knowledge that becomes conviction of some well known truths, that if you follow some proven strategies you will get the desired results.

Fear of loss or failure can prevent us from moving forward, risking what we already have for something we don’t yet have or cannot see can be immobilising, this is where belief comes in. If you believe you can have something better, if you can convince your subconscious by creating emotion and excitiment around your goal the fear of loss can be overcome.

If you have been striving to achieve but have yet to reach your goal you will most likely need to examine what actions you have been taking so far and make some adjustments. Consider the following and take some steps towards them now…

  1. Write down four things you need to do but keep putting off.
  2. Under each one write the answer to this question. ‘Why haven’t I done this? What pain have I associated to this?’
  3. Write down what pleasure you get by using the above reason to stop you from completing the task.
  4. Write down what it will cost you by continuing to put off the above task. This usually involves more than just money.
  5. Write what pleasures will result if you completed the task.

Remember that your fears and beliefs have come from your interpretation of past experiencse, successful people have come to realise that the past does not equal the future.

Anthony Robbins has stated some key truths that must be understood if you are going to break through limiting belief barriers:

  • New experiences only trigger change if they cause us to question our beliefs.
  • When we believe something we no longer question it in any way.
  • If you question anything enough, you’ll eventually begin to doubt it.
  • A conviction eclipses opinion and belief, due to the different emotional intensities we link to an idea.

Have a powerful day
